1994 | Guy Lombardo
The famous bandleader was highly regarded in the world of speedboat racing. Guy Lombardo made the sweetest music this side of heaven for years with his Royal Canadians.
Lombardo was probably the first celebrity outside of power boat racing who brought notoriety to the sport. His presence contributed to the popularity of power boat racing for three generations. There was a time, however, when Lombardo made roostertails as well as music. In 1946, in his first Unlimited race driving the big Gold Cup hydros, Lombardo drove Tempo VI to an APBA Gold Cup victory averaging 68.072 mph. As an owner, his Unlimited boats also won six career victories from 1946 through 1955.
