He used this fascination to earn his living in this field — one of the few sportsmen to successfully combine his vocation with his avocation.
Garbrecht's enthusiasm for the sport and his business enabled him to make many contributions to the sport of powerboat racing. He devoted much time and money to the development and use of lifesaving devices. If he had an obsession, it was to make racing safer.
