Hill began racing in 1937, and his flair for mechanics followed not long after. Known for strict but fair officiating, he became a well-respected inspector and referee in many categories.

Hill also helped promote many racing events, as a past club commodore and race chairman. His mechanical skills have created engines that won many records and titles for some of the best drivers in Stock, Alky and OPC for three decades.
