1983 | Ralph Evinrude
For over 60 years, Ralph Evinrudeās name was synonymous with leadership in the marine industry and with Outboard motors.
Son of Honor Squadron member Ole Evinrude, he saw the competition potential of the Outboard motor and was developed the first Outboard engine to exceed 60 MPH. Evinrude sponsored the motors that set the first Outboard record of 114.8 MPH in 1960; then 131.05 MPH in 1966.
He was a powerful force behind the development of the V8 Outboard, which held the current record of 144.16 MPH. Sponsoring early Outboard races such as the Milwaukee-Chicago Marathon in 1931, Evinrude remained active through his support of engineering for maximum performance and his lifelong personal interest in the Outboard motor in general.
