APBA Safety Capsule Training 2026

Dear APBA Members,

This communication is intended to clarify the permitted use, limitations, and recertification requirements associated with the American Power Boat Association (APBA) Safety Capsule Training Program, including dunk test procedures, training content, and all related APBA-issued materials.

1. Limited and Protected Use of APBA Safety Protocols

APBA safety training protocols are developed exclusively for APBA‑sanctioned events* and APBA‑certified officials. These materials are proprietary and may not be used, adapted, distributed, replicated, or represented as official safety standards at any non‑APBA event*, for any purpose, without prior written authorization from APBA.

Any use of APBA safety materials outside APBA‑sanctioned activities is strictly prohibited*.

APBA assumes no liability, express or implied, for any external organization’s conduct, safety procedures, interpretations, or misuse of APBA-developed materials.

2. No Warranty or External Endorsement

APBA does not warrant or endorse the suitability or applicability of its training protocols for any other organization, event, sanctioning body, or boating discipline. APBA makes no representation regarding compliance with outside insurance requirements, regulatory standards, or safety frameworks.

3. Recertification Requirements & Updated Dunk Test Forms

APBA is transitioning to updated 2026 dunk test forms and revised recertification procedures. Please note the following:

• Current, up-to-date certified members do not need to repeat training.

If your APBA certification is current, you remain valid under the new system.

• Recertification will occur automatically through APBA Headquarters.

APBA HQ will:

• Member responsibility:

• Outdated/Prior year dunk test forms may not be used.

Organizations or individuals may not modify past APBA forms, nor use them outside APBA-sanctioned or partnered* event purposes.

If you have not uploaded your capsule certificate to your APBA Trackside profile and have an old form that is still compliant to your category's rulebook please email us at apbahq@apba.org so we can help you with accommodations.

If you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact us at apbahq@apba.org

*Partnered event applies to CBF sanctioned events with the APBA
