SORC Ballot #2 Announcement:
This week the following issues were approved by the majority of our Stock Outboard Commission:
1) Lower the 20S weight in the BSR class.
Drop the 20S Sidewinder entries to 380 lbs from 395.
Reasons:
15SSR drivers will be able to adjust to the lower weight from their 360/375 lbs class.
This will help the engine be the motor of choice.
This is the weight that the class used to be.
Effective in 30 days from approval and posting.
2) Lower the 25XS Mercury entries to 395 lbs
This is the same minimum weight as the 25SSR class.
This will make the restrictor plate the only transition needed to enter this class.
Effective in 30 days from approval and posting.
3) BSR Class engine addition
Referring to the rule on page 22 of our Tech Manual which states:
“The Mercury/Mariner 25XS & Yamato 80 are permitted in hydro and the Mercury/Mariner in
runabout for three years until November 1, 2020. This removal will only occur if there are at
least 30 drivers that have raced the class a minimum of four races during the third season while
using the Sidewinder 20S engine in the respective class.”
Proposal:
Add the Yamato Model 80 to the rule above
Reasons:
To help the BSR class grow by having a place for the 20S entries to race and to gain the same
momentum that we have seen in the BSH class.
Several members are asking why we have not incorporated the same into the runabouts as the
hydros.
Specifics:
Same boat size & weight as the 25XS entries. The only difference would be ½” below the
bottom.
Effective in 30 days from approval and posting.
4) Enlarge the BSR class boat dimensions.
Raise the width to 46” from 44” and raise the length to 10’ from 9’ 5”
Reason:
To increase the safety of the class with the higher speeds of the unrestricted 20S.
This would provide direction for our members on where the class size will end up.
This would not be effective until November 1.
5) Sidewinder specification changes proposed by Ed Runne (except for flywheel issue)
Reason: To adjust the tolerances to what is currently being produced.
(See document shared in Seattle).
Effective in 30 days from approval and posting.
6) Approve the flex plate flywheel kit for the 15S Sidewinder engine. (kit = flywheel, shroud & shroud bracket)
Effective thirty (30) days after 50 kits are produced and are available for sale to our membership on the release date. If not available prior to May 1, 2020, the 50 kits nor the new style flywheel will not be legal until after our summer closed course nationals have concluded.
7) Approve the flex plate flywheel kit for the 20S Sidewinder engine.
8) 102 & 300 series engines gaskets
Gaskets of any make of manufacture, including homemade, are permitted providing they are equivalent to the original in shape and thickness, except for the cylinder head gasket. (Only OEM gaskets on 300SSH engines)
Effective in 30 days from approval and posting.
